I really, really wanted to love the Comet. I wanted to have that perfectly straight hyzerflipper that cuts through lines and elevation changes with stately confidence. I wanted to have that Mike Johannsen insoucience that throws its nose up at your high-speed drivers but parking itself under the basket in regulation all the time...
And OK, granted, it has amazing glide, it flips up on command, it goes effing far, and has more wind resilience than you would expect. But ... there are so many other contenders these days that do the same sort of thing. Fuse, Buzzz SS, Kaxe-Z, Svea, Bounty, Uplink ... and they all feel much less weirdly old-school in the hand than the Comet does, with its fastback-shouldered dome and thinnish rim which is more than a little reminiscent of an Ultrastar frisbee "lid".
There is no denying its greatness, but I really wonder how long before it fades into legendary status where it is talked about more than it is thrown.
